8 Signs a Tree May Be Unsafe and Needs Professional Assessment in Homer City, PA

While trees add beauty, some can pose risks. Regularly inspecting your trees, especially after storms common in Homer City, PA is crucial. Look for these warning signs that indicate a tree may need a professional assessment by a Cipres Tree Service arborist:

  • Leaning Suddenly or Significantly: A noticeable, recent lean, especially towards property or people, can indicate root failure or instability.
  • Large Dead Branches: Dead branches (no leaves in growing season) are weak and can fall unexpectedly. Look for these high in the canopy.
  • Cracks or Splits in the Trunk or Major Limbs: Deep vertical cracks, especially those extending through the trunk, compromise structural integrity.
  • Decay or Cavities: Visible rotting wood, hollow areas, or fungal growth (mushrooms) on the trunk or major roots often signify internal decay and weakness.
  • Root Zone Disturbance: Recent construction, trenching, or soil compaction near a tree's base can damage critical roots, leading to instability or decline later.
  • Heaving Soil or Exposed Roots: Soil lifting around the base of the tree, especially on the side opposite a lean, can indicate potential uprooting.
  • Sudden Leaf Drop or Discoloration (Out of Season): This can signal stress, disease, or root problems affecting the tree's health and stability.
  • Proximity to Targets: Even a moderately risky tree becomes a higher priority if it could fall on homes, power lines, driveways, or play areas in your Homer City, PA yard.If you observe any of these signs, don't wait. Contact Cipres Tree Service in Homer City, PA for a professional assessment by an ISA Certified Arborist to determine the actual risk and appropriate action.

Homer City, PA Insights: Population,
Zip Codes, Influence, and Service Areas

The two treaties of Fort Stanwix (of 1768 and, after American independence, of 1784) secured the westward expansion of Pennsylvania into the region where the Borough of Homer City is now located, on land inhabited by the six Indian nations. With white settlement these new territories were initially organized as part of existing counties in eastern and central Pennsylvania. White settlers were few in the eighteenth century and encountering Indians still very much a part of daily life. Any degree of stability and safety came only after the Battle of Fallen Timbers (1794). Indiana County was carved out of Westmoreland and Lycoming counties in 1803 and divided into three townships: Wheatfield, Armstrong, and Mahoning. The confluence of Two Lick and Yellow creeks (present-day Homer City) was a contender for the seat of government for the new county, but instead the "extraordinary overtures" of George Clymer, a local landowners and a signer of the Declaration of Independence, saw the county seat situated instead in what would become the Borough of Indiana. Center Township - the unincorporated area surrounding present-day Homer City - was created from a portion of Armstrong Township in 1807, its landscape dotted with larger and smaller family homesteads (farms) and an increasing number of mills and trading posts.
